Preparing for an Orange Effect Foundation grant application can feel intimidating, but it really doesn’t need to be. Clear information and transparency is the simple key. No one knows your child better than you and all of the documentation is fairly standard and accessible.
Before you begin, and aside from basic information about you and your child, be prepared to provide:
- All of the information for your Speech Language Pathologist, including ASHA-Certification and State-License numbers (they can provide them upon request)
- The total grant amount you’re requesting. Have a formal quote ready from the SLP practice, the camp, or the device manufacturer. (In some cases, a little math may be required!) For speech therapy, it helps to have recent invoices if your child has already attended
- A formal Speech Evaluation, and a Progress Report if the evaluation is over six months old
- A Treatment Plan, if you’re requesting speech therapy or a camp experience
- An Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Evaluation for those requesting a device/technology grant
- An IEP, if your child attends school, and a School Progress Report if the IEP is over six months old
- Medical Insurance information and an Explanation of Benefits (EOB), or a denial letter as appropriate
- A current IRS 1040. Financial transparency is necessary for consideration
There are also open-ended areas where we ask you to share your story. Tell us about your needs and how financial support will impact your family. Every child is unique also and we want to know how we can help make a difference for them.
Grant cycle closing dates are February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1, every year. Be sure to submit your application early enough in the cycle to leave time for additions or corrections after our preliminary review.
And most importantly, know that we’re here to help you prepare the most complete and successful application possible. When in doubt, email your questions to info@theorangeeffect.org – Just know, you’ve got this!
