Have You Ever Been To Pickwick and Frolic?
Cleveland has an eclectic and all inclusive food and entertainment scene. To be honest we have come such a long way just in the last 10 years. So much so that it is often hard to decide where to entertain friends and family when they come to town.
One of my favorites though, is Pickwick and Frolic, located on E. 4th Street and also home to Hilarities Comedy Club. E. 4th is an easy walk from pretty much anywhere in downtown Cleveland but is mere blocks from the venues where our baseball (Cleveland Guardians) and basketball (Cleveland Cavaliers) teams play.
More than that though is the history of the club and the remarkable thing that happened on E4th Street, all because of Pickwick’s founder, Nick Kostis.
As written in Cleveland.com, (E. 4th Street), the brick-lined downtown alley is alive, its patios filled with happy-hour crowds, diners strolling to ballgames after having their choice of restaurants. None of it would have been possible without the determination of Nick Kostis.
Pickwick & Frolic is marking 20 years since Kostis signed a lease to open a restaurant in the once semi-desolate, definitely non-trendy area. That was the dream all along – a restaurant first, and also a comedy club.
The others successfully followed, and the mostly pedestrian street swooned with culinary options.
If that is not enough, you have to meet the staff.
I first met Nick and Dina at a meeting they agreed to take with us about hosting an event at their venue back in 2013. They had NO idea who we were or what we were trying to do by bringing this concept of content marketing to Cleveland. What was so striking is how much they cared. They didn’t just take the meeting to get our business, they wanted to help make the event and the experience for the attendees the absolute best it could be to make our city look good.
They helped brainstorm ideas, make introductions to other Cleveland businesses and influencers and give helpful tips for hotels and other restaurants in the area. Who does that? Well the team at Pickwick sure does.
And if that is not enough you just have to see the space for yourself. There is a champagne fountain… need I say more?
There is a fun cabaret stage, and the huge theatre where famous comedians from all over the world come to perform. And that is just the downstairs.
The upstairs is, in my opinion, the most beautiful dining room on E. 4th Street. You see wood fire pizza being made as you indulge in their fine cocktails. And if you know me, you know that in the summer I can always be found outside on a patio, and Pickwick’s is top notch!
Overall, you just can’t go wrong here. It’s a full date night, dinner and show and a nightcap, all in one amazing place. If you go, give Nick a hug for me!
