It’s a bit dramatic, but I feel like I can’t get through a day without hearing something about Artificial Intelligence (AI). Oftentimes it’s great stories about people with disabilities such as speech impediments, that are able to communicate more effectively because of some new related technology.
Other times it’s something more fearful, like robots taking over jobs or fear that AI will take over computers and rule the world … (you get my point).
I use AI much more than I ever realized. My kids pointed out that by using “Talk to text” on my phone I am using AI. And, when writing this post the prompts may start to type ahead for me and make suggestions, or correct my grammar and spelling.
I’ve tried using the tool ChatGPT to help me when I have a bit of writer’s block and I realized this too is AI. ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI. I decided to reach out to our board members to see who else is using this tool, whether personally or in their work. You’ll see they have a great variety of uses! Here is what they had to say:
Dana – Yes – almost daily! ChatGPT is my friend. I typically use ChatGPT lightly. Mostly to wordsmith emails or create content for LinkedIn. I always tailor the messages that ChatGPT outputs, but typically it’s a great starting point for me. Our company created their own internal ChatGPT. Here I can compare benefit summaries, summarize articles and even design benefit guides!
A more personal example is for my wedding text messages! If I want to send a note to my wedding party that is lengthy – let’s use the bachelorette party for example – I will plug in the date, cost and any details and ask ChatGPT to write me a text to my girls! I will continue to utilize ChatGPT for all things wedding!
Melissa – I am just beginning to use ChatGPT. It is helping me in my work in the schools. It created a nice behavior plan for a 3rd grade student. And, we just tried it with a group of high school students with special needs with significant writing/speaking needs – they entered their characters, setting, plot, and an outcome for ChatGPT to then write their story. What a great way for students who struggle to see “their ideas” made into a story!!!
Tom – My company is very enthusiastic about using AI initiatives. Mostly what we have is internal AI platforms. While I have not used ChatGPT, I have used my company’s version of ChatGPT to help draft emails, review long documents, and compare and summarize documents for me.
Jeff – I’ve had a ChatGPT “Plus” account since it launched. I use it regularly as a brainstorming partner for content creation, email newsletters, and blog writing. I’ve used it to help write marketing and sales copy, and to break through writer’s block. I’ve used Dall-E for creating graphics used in presentation slides as well. One of my favorite uses is to have it analyze my writing and provide feedback on my writing style and voice. You learn a lot about yourself and find ways to improve your writing.
Joe – I love using ChatGPT to travel. I have specific GPT threads set up for destinations. For example, my wife and I just went to Italy and I used ChatGPT to find the perfect location for us to travel to in Tuscany. And it was perfect. Thanks ChatGPT.
