I love making resolutions. For me, it’s permission to keep trying. Whether that is trying something new by setting a new goal or revising a previously set to-do item. For me, resolutions don’t have to be all about doing something better; it can be just getting something done. My birthday is about halfway through the year, which for a resolution maker like myself is pretty handy. I find myself really focused on my birthday and the new year to try and make resolutions. Don’t worry though. I find the first of the month a great time to make resolutions, or a random Monday. I am an equal opportunity resolution maker.
This might lead you to believe that I am constantly making resolutions because I can’t keep them, or I need to amend them. This is partially true, but not entirely. I like to make and update resolutions at any given time because I have learned something new or found a better way to achieve what I was working toward.
I decided to dive into my desire to constantly make resolutions, so I started with the definition of resolute. Darn if it isn’t a great definition.
Resolute – admirably purposeful, determined, and unwavering
Wow – I mean, who doesn’t want to be resolute? What a powerful word.
I noted about myself too that I love to make lists, and as the most rewarding part of that, I love the act of crossing things off the list when they are complete. It’s something simple that I find I get a lot of joy from. A true sense of accomplishment perhaps. But the list is similar to the resolutions, in that I set the list of things to do and then get to mark it as a success when it is done!
At the Orange Effect Foundation, we set resolutions too! One of our goals for 2024 is to fund $100,000 in grants to kids who need speech therapy services or devices to help them communicate. It’s a lofty goal. One that will come with a lot of hard work from each of our board members and our generous community of supporters like you.
Additionally, though we have goals to learn more about the different types of disorders causing speech and language issues in children as well as trying to keep up with the laws and changes in insurance and billing that are affecting the families we serve. That is certainly a daunting goal and not one that we can ever fully achieve, but still something we are resolute to strive for.
If one of your resolutions is to perhaps join a group of amazing people who are working to assure that every child is able to communicate, please reach out to me. We’d love to have you part of our team to make a difference.
